Every love story has a beginning. I met Julie in Intro to Psychology class. I was dressed in a t-shirt and pajama bottoms, my dark blonde hair was a mess, and I probably smelled really bad. My legs hit the bottom of the desk, as I was tall, being just about 6 foot 3 inches. I was bit hung over due to going to a frat part the previous night with my roommate. Not that I had any fun. I felt out of place here. The University of Texas was a great school, but I was from New York, and really didn’t feel connected to anyone here. I hated not knowing anyone, it made me feel extremely uncomfortable and out of place.
I had been in school for a little over a week, and classes had just started Wednesday. It was the first day of Intro to Psych and my feeling of feeling of being out of place and alone was about to change. I sat with my head down on the desk as the teacher went on to say how this was college now and more was expected from us, and how we would be having a 10 page research paper due by the end of the course. I made a mental note that I would be dropping this class as soon as I possible can, as I heard the door swing open.
“I know that you think you can skip and come late to class,” said the teacher out loud to the class, “But that’s not true.”
I heard footsteps and then felt someone’s arm brush mine as they sat down in the seat next to mine.
“Well she’s a beyotch,” said the voice of the girl who just sat down next to me.
“Huh,” I said looking up from my desk. Next to me sat one of the most beautiful girls I had ever met. She had long light brown hair that seemed to glow with her beautiful green eyes that were looking straight at me. Her skin looked soft, and she had a bit of a tan, but not that ugly spray on type tan, and she had this look about her that told me she was not only beautiful but kind, genuine, and smart. I was 100% right about that.
“Tired?” she asked looking at me with a raised eye brow.
“Umm yeah,” I said looking down, feeling my cheeks burn.
“Party hardy last night?” she asked going into her bag and taking out a notebook. I looked down at her, her hair long hair going over her shoulder and hanging down. Her shirt moved a little, revealing some cleavage, and I tried my best not to look, but I couldn’t help myself. Hey, don’t act like you would do any better.
“A bit yeah,” I said as she came back up and looked at me with a knowing smile.
“Julie Hart,” she said putting out her hand.
“Cameron Abbot,” I said shaking grabbing her hand and feelings it warmth.
“Nice to meet you Cam,” said Julie smiling brightly, her green eyes glowing.
Throughout the semester we sat in back and instead of listening to the teacher go on and on about both our intended majors, we talked. By the end of the semester I knew almost everything about her. She was from Dillion, a small town in Texas, her parents were divorced, like mine, and she had an older brother and a younger sister, just like me. She has been in love, but it didn’t go well, and her best friend was a mutant. She graduated at top of her high class, which was beyond obvious when come the end of the semester, she saved me from failing Pysch, and when she gets older, she wanted to be a child psychologist, because she wants to help people, children specifically. She was amazing, and I was already in love with her. I had no clue how she felt of at that time, as she said after her last experience with her first love, she decided it would be a long before she can trust a guy again.
The semester ended, and we made sure to take at least two courses with each other next semester, and got even closer. Summer came, and I went back to the New York, while she stayed in Texas. I thought about her everyday that summer, though we did talk everyday on the phone or online, it wasn’t the same, I missed seeing her. Sophomore year finally began and I went to her dorm the first night back.
“Hey,” she said as I entered the room. She ran over to me and gave me a hug. It felt so good to be with her again, to see her, smell her, to touch her. I kept my arms around her as she looked up to me. Her green eyes looked into my blue, and we both stared at each other for a bit before I finally, with all my courage, kissed her. She quickly pulled back, and looked at me, not saying a thing. I couldn’t say anything either, feeling like I just made the biggest mistake of my life, but she smiled at me. “About time you wimp.” We kissed again, and I had never been happier.
And that was that, we stayed together through out the rest of college, and then come graduation, we both got accepted into the University of Texas graduate school for psychology, and then moved into a small apartment together. Everything was perfect, we both got through our first year with ease, and that was mostly because of each other. When things got tough we leaned on each other. But what was about to happen would change everything.
“Happy 24th birthday Cam,” said Julie kissing me on the lips as I laid down in our bed. I had my arms around and she had her hands on my bare chest.
“So far it is,” I said looking down at her with a smile. “Thanks for that.”
“Oh,” said Julie hitting me on the chest playfully, “Dirty.”
“You should skip class today, and you could make me have a really, really good birthday,” I said giving her my best puppy dog look.
“I wish I could,” said Julie kissing me on the lips again, “But I have like one of the most important test of the year in class today, so I can’t skip it. But I promise I will be right back after going to the bank, and then I will continue you giving you a happy birthday, over and over again.”
“I do like the sound of that,” I said as Julie gave me another kiss on the lips.
FLASH. White light blinded my vision.
I saw a small boy standing at the end of a sidewalk FLASH I saw a car go out of control FLASH The car collided into the boy FLASH I saw Julie, everything was blurry. FLASH. I saw a Bank of America Sign. FLASH. I heard a gunshot. FLASH. I saw Julie, lying in a pool of her own blood FLASH I heard a loud honking sound. FLASH
“Cam?” I heard Julie’s voice say concerned as the flash of white light faded. “You okay?”
“Uh,” I said looking at her not knowing what to say.
“Cam you look sick,” said Julie touching my forehead, “Look how pale you are.”
“I’m okay Julie,” I said not sounding so sure. I looked at her, not knowing what to say. I don’t know what just happened to me.
“Are you sure?” asked Julie looking at me concerned. Suddenly I heard Julie’s voice echo in my head. “What’s wrong with him? I don’t get it.”
“Oh God,” I said shocked looking up to at the ceiling. I was suddenly short of breath. My mind was racing and my heart was pounding. I didn’t understand what was going on.
“Cam?” asked Julie.
“I…I,” I looked towards her. She looked panicked and scared. Was that a vision and did I read her mind? No, it can’t be. “I’m fine.”
“Cameron,” said Julie, “Please, if something is wrong tell me.”
“Nothing is wrong,” I said forcing a smile, “You should get going. Don’t want to be late.”
“Yeah,” said Julie looking at me, “You’re right.”
I smiled at her and gave her a kiss on the lips, half expecting another one of those strange visions to happen. But I didn’t get it. I sighed and gave Julie another smile. She didn’t give me a smile back at first, instead looked at me, her green eyes practically seeing right through me. “Julie, it’s nothing, I just had a headache.”
“Okay,” said Julie sighing and then giving me a kiss on the forehead, “I’m going to head into the shower.”
“Alright, I think I’m going to go out for a run,” I said as she got up and headed into the shower.
After Julie went into the bathroom, I quickly got dressed. I needed to get out of here and think for a bit. I entered the city street, closeing on my jacket as I did so. What was going on, I thought as I walked down the street. Could this really be happening? Did I really just read Julie’s mind? And what was that I saw? Could that be real? No, I’m being crazy. I’m way too old to be a mutant, and I wasn’t bitten by some radioactive spider like Peter Parker was. I put my hands in my jacket, feeling the cold wind hit my face. God, if I have powers of some sort, would I have to register and if I don’t am I going to be arrested? Hell, I am not even sure I have powers, could they still arrest me. Will I end like that Goliath guy now? My heart started to pound. I could feel the world around me starting to close. This couldn’t be happening, this just couldn’t be.
Suddenly I felt something hit my leg. FLASH. I saw a young boy, the same boy from my previous vision, he looked no older then 5. He was standing on the end of a sidewalk, looking at something with wide panicked eyes. FLASH I saw a car getting hit, throwing it up in the air. FLASH. The car was heading right towards the small boy. He wasn’t moving. FLASH.
The white light faded, and I felt a sudden panic set in. I looked around the sidewalk at first not seeing a little boy, but then I looked down.
“Scotty!” screamed a woman, “Say sorry to that man!”
“Sorry,” said the young boy from my vision looking up at me, then running past me.
“Scotty!” screamed the woman angrily, “Stay where you are!”
The young boy stopped at the end of the sidewalk, “Yes mommy.”
“Sorry about that,” I heard the woman say, “He’s just so wild. I can’t get him to keep still for five sec-” Suddenly her phone rang and she shook her head angrily, “I take off one day to spend with my son and they can’t stop calling me!” she picked up her phone angrily and turned her back to me, “Hello!”
I looked to the boy again. He was just standing at the end of the sidewalk. This can’t be happening, I told myself again. I couldn’t have just really had a vision of this kid. But if I did, then he’s in trouble. I looked back to the kid’s mom who was yelling into her cell phone and then back to the kid. I quickly, without even thinking ran over to the kid, grabbing him. He let out a scream and his mother quickly looked to me.
